The Gmail app for Mac that Google never made.

Gmail in a real Mac app: every Gmail account side by side with your other email, new mail as a notification, and no browser tab to keep open.

Updated October 18, 2026

Gmail is great at mail and not so great on a Mac. It lives in a browser tab you have to keep open, it doesn't sit with your work or school address, and every extra Gmail account means another tab or another profile. GotEmail puts Gmail where your other Mac apps are: in a native window, in the Dock, with notifications that arrive even when the window is closed.

What you get with Gmail in GotEmail

  • All your Gmail accounts together. Personal, work and side-project Gmail, plus Outlook, iCloud or any other address, in one All Inboxes list.
  • Sign-in codes, one click away. When Google, your bank or any site sends a verification code to your Gmail, GotEmail shows it beside the subject and in a banner, ready to copy.
  • AI that drafts and summarizes. Describe a reply and get a draft; ask for a summary of a long thread. No API key, nothing to set up.
  • Send Later and Snooze. Schedule a message for tomorrow morning, or put a thread away until the weekend.
  • Private by design. Your mail goes straight from your Mac to Google. Tracking pixels and remote images stay blocked until you allow them.

Set up Gmail on your Mac in two minutes

Google asks mail apps to sign in with an app password, a separate password just for GotEmail. You make it once:

  1. Turn on 2-Step Verification. In your Google Account, open Security and turn it on if it is off. App passwords only appear once it is on.
  2. Make an app password. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, name it GotEmail, and copy the 16-character password Google shows.
  3. Add the account in GotEmail. Choose Add Account, pick Gmail, type your address and paste the app password. GotEmail fills in Gmail's servers for you.

That's it: your inbox loads, and new mail arrives as it lands. Our step-by-step guide to Gmail app passwords walks through each step and fixes the usual snags.

Your Google password stays yours. The app password only opens your mail, and you can remove it from your Google Account at any time without changing anything else.

Work and school Gmail (Google Workspace)

Google doesn't offer app passwords on most work and school accounts, so an address your company or school runs on Google Workspace may not be able to sign in this way yet. We're working on signing in with Google for these accounts. Personal Gmail addresses work today.

Questions

Is there an official Gmail app for Mac?

No. Google makes Gmail apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, but on the Mac Gmail lives in the browser. GotEmail is a native Mac app that opens Gmail alongside your other accounts.

Can I use more than one Gmail account?

Yes, as many as you like. Each one appears in the sidebar, and All Inboxes shows them together in one list.

Why does GotEmail ask for an app password?

Google doesn't let mail apps sign in with your normal Google password. An app password is a separate 16-character password just for GotEmail, which you can remove at any time from your Google Account without changing your real password.

Does GotEmail read or store my Gmail?

No. GotEmail talks to Gmail's servers directly from your Mac. There is no GotEmail server in between, and your app password stays in your Mac's Keychain.

Do my Gmail labels and Sent mail stay in sync?

Yes. GotEmail works on your Gmail mailbox itself over IMAP, so archiving, deleting and moving mail on your Mac shows up in Gmail everywhere, and mail you send appears in Gmail's Sent.

Every address. One inbox.

GotEmail brings all your email accounts into one fast, private Mac app.
