Not all email lives at Google or Microsoft. Plenty of people use Fastmail, Zoho, the mail that came with their website, or a server their company runs. GotEmail treats them all the same: every IMAP account gets the unified inbox, sign-in codes in one click, AI drafts and summaries, Send Later and Snooze.
Fastmail
Fastmail is a preset: pick it and the servers are filled in. Fastmail signs mail apps in with an app password:
- Open Fastmail's settings. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Integrations.
- Make an app password. Choose New app password, name it GotEmail, and give it access to Mail (IMAP, POP, SMTP).
- Add the account. In GotEmail choose Add Account → Fastmail, type your address and paste the password.
Zoho Mail
Zoho is a preset too, with one extra choice: your region.
- Turn on IMAP access. In Zoho Mail's settings, open Mail Accounts → IMAP Access and turn it on.
- Make an app-specific password, if you use two-factor authentication. You'll find it under Zoho Accounts → Security. Without two-factor authentication, your Zoho password works.
- Pick your region and add the account. Accounts made in Europe, India, Australia, Japan or Canada live on their own servers. Pick yours, and GotEmail uses the right ones.
Any other IMAP server
Choose Other (IMAP) and type the settings your provider lists, usually on a help page called something like "IMAP settings" or "set up a mail app". You'll need:
| What to type | Usually | |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming server (IMAP) | e.g. imap.yourhost.com | Port 993, TLS |
| Outgoing server (SMTP) | e.g. smtp.yourhost.com | Port 465 with TLS, or 587 with STARTTLS |
| Username | Most often your full email address | |
| Password | Your mail password, or an app password if your provider uses them |
Presets GotEmail fills in for you
Choose one of these and you only type your address and password: Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, AOL, Fastmail and Zoho.
Questions
What is IMAP?
IMAP is the standard way mail apps read mail on a server. Your messages stay on the server, so what you read, move or delete in GotEmail matches webmail and your other devices.
Does GotEmail support POP3?
No. GotEmail uses IMAP, which keeps your mail on the server, so archiving, moving, flags and folders stay the same on every device. POP only downloads mail to one computer. Almost every provider offers IMAP today; look for it in your provider's settings.
My Zoho account is in Europe or India. Does it work?
Yes. Pick your region when you add a Zoho account (Global, Europe, India, Australia, Japan or Canada) and the right servers follow.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Whoever hosts your domain's mail gives you IMAP and SMTP settings; choose Other (IMAP) and type them in.
Is my password safe?
Your password is kept in your Mac's Keychain, and GotEmail connects to your server directly with TLS. There is no GotEmail server in between.
